Freshwater systems are becoming increasingly popular as people begin to understand the health benefits and better alternative to chlorine, salt or mineral based systems.

Perfect for asthmatics, psoriasis and eczema

Up to 50% savings on running costs

Good for surrounding plants and garden

Won’t damage outdoor furniture near the pool

No need to wash swimwear or shower afterwards

Less maintenance or shower afterwards

No red eyes or irritated skin

The difference is clear.

Chlorine has been the traditional method to sanitise water and has been used since the early 1900’s.  Although chlorine has been deemed sufficient to sanitise both domestic and commercial swimming pools, swimmers are susceptible to all kinds of skin reactions and respiratory allergies.

Pool chlorine is a salt of hypochlorous acid, i.e., a “hypochlorite” salt, which is added to pool water to keep it healthy for swimming.  That chemical reacts with the molecules that make up your skin: Your skin is made from proteins and fats/oils; those compounds are susceptible to reacting with chlorine.  Chlorine’s chemical reaction with your skin can cause irritation, such as itching or burning.

Additionally chlorine dissipates quickly, which in turn has a direct effect on the water balance of the pool and the costs associated to rebalance. Other harmful chemicals are needed to hold the chlorine for longer periods of time (cyunaric acid), which is commonly sold off the shelves of pools shops as “sunblock” or “sunscreen”.

Swimmers are also deterred from chlorinated pools simply from the foul odour and taste of the water. It also extremely common to hear that bathers and towels deteriorate far quicker in a chlorine based pool, as well as the pool equipment itself.

Another problem is that chlorine is extremely hard to wash off of your hair and skin.  Because chlorine bonds to your hair and skin, it gets stuck there and does not wash away in the shower. Not with soap.  Not with shampoo. Not with body wash.  Those products do not break chlorine’s bond to your skin.

We often hear people say that they don’t have chlorine in their pool because it’s a ‘salt or mineral’ pool. The fact is that these are still chlorine-based pools ‘hypochlorite’. You can find out more about salt-water pools here.

The hybrid Naked System is made up of a digital control unit that supplies and manages current to the electrode assembly (OXI & ION Cell). Electrolysis passes through the oxidiser and copper and silver anodes, releasing the ions into the water. The silver disinfects the water controlling bacteria and the copper prevents algae growth. The oxidiser destroys organic matter while the minerals left in the water form a residual that continues to sanitise the water.

The end result is the water you’re swimming in is virtually no different to the water from your household tap. Healthier for you, easier to manage and better protects your long-term investment for your home and family. More benefits can be found here.
